BigHeart Health Challenges Caregivers to Stop Postponing Their Own Wellness

Cheryle Jackson, a breast cancer survivor and CEO of BigHeart Health, is flipping the script on the traditional caregiver narrative. Her new campaign, Her Health Can't Wait, targets the systemic tendency for women—particularly those who manage family health—to prioritize everyone else's medical needs while consistently neglecting their own.

The initiative debuts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aiming to bridge the gap between having health insurance and actually utilizing it. Jackson, whose Chicago-based virtual healthcare company focuses on reducing disparities, argues that the habit of skipping checkups or ignoring symptoms often leads to late-stage diagnoses that could have been avoided. The campaign encourages women to schedule a "Her Health First Visit" through the company's virtual platform, where providers perform a holistic review covering everything from metabolic health to stress levels.

Beyond basic screenings, the program introduces care navigators tasked with scheduling specialists and connecting women to local resources for food security, housing, and transportation. This focus is critical, as data from Mental Health America suggests Black women provide an average of 31.2 hours of care per week—the highest of any demographic—frequently facing systemic barriers that lead to feeling unheard or unprotected within the medical system. With nearly one in four women admitting to delaying necessary care, the campaign serves as both an urgent reminder and a practical bridge to consistent, proactive healthcare.
