California Leaders Denounce Trump’s Suggestion of Attacks on U.S. Cities

California’s political leadership erupted in outrage after President Donald Trump suggested at a Nebraska rally that he would not object to Iranian military strikes against Los Angeles and San Diego. The remarks, which drew cheers from his supporters, framed the potential destruction of these major cities as a necessary sacrifice.

Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the rhetoric as "deranged and dangerous," pointing to the president's history of targeting Democratic strongholds. Newsom also criticized Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their silence regarding the comments. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria rejected the premise that his city, which hosts significant military installations, could be treated as collateral damage in global conflicts.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass accused the president of abandoning his primary duty to protect American lives. While some observers suggested the president’s phrasing was merely a symptom of a confusing speaking style, the political fallout continues to mount. Senator Alex Padilla went further, calling for the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. The controversy arrives as the Pentagon prepares to deploy additional troops to the Middle East, with tensions between the U.S. and Iran showing no signs of abating.
