The project, titled "Scaling EventHorizon with Redtail," will utilize the state-managed supercomputer to process massive datasets at speeds unattainable with conventional laboratory infrastructure. By leveraging the Redtail system—currently ranked 159th on the Top 500 list of global supercomputers—the team plans to accelerate the training of AI models capable of identifying rare disease patterns in hematologic data.
Robert Ohgami, vice president of the ARUP Institute for Research and Innovation, stated that the computational power provided by the $50 million partnership will drastically reduce development timelines for diagnostic tools. The research team, led by David Ng alongside data scientists Muir Morrison and Mattia Medina Grespan, intends to improve diagnostic accuracy and shorten turnaround times for patients awaiting critical therapy decisions. This initiative, supported by the University of Utah and the Huntsman Family Foundation, positions the lab as a pioneer in utilizing state-backed infrastructure to advance diagnostic precision medicine.
