Outer Spaces Debuts Solar-Powered Pavilions for Residential Energy

A new category of residential infrastructure arrives in 2027 as Outer Spaces launches a modular backyard pavilion that integrates solar generation and battery storage. Founded by the team behind the outdoor brand Outer, the company aims to move solar hardware away from rooftops and garages into functional living spaces.

The company’s debut product, OS1, functions as both a power plant and a livable structure. Built as a pavilion with an integrated solar roof and a power deck containing ultra-thin battery storage, the system is designed to provide energy independence without the industrial aesthetic of traditional panels or wall-mounted batteries. The units, available in 12x12 and 12x24 foot footprints, offer between 2.4 and 5.3 kilowatts of solar generation and 15 to 60 kilowatt-hours of storage.

Co-founders Jiake Liu, Terry Lin, and CTO Robin Liao secured $8 million in pre-seed funding led by Upfront Ventures to bring the project to market. Unlike custom construction, the OS1 is a modular system that avoids the need for excavation or concrete pouring. The company plans to sell the pavilions directly to homeowners and through a network of solar installers, builders, and landscape designers. Public demonstrations of the technology are scheduled for the RE+ 2026 event in Las Vegas this November.
