Pimax Debuts Crystal Pro Headset With Native Foveated Streaming

At its Frontier event in San Jose, Pimax revealed the Crystal Pro, a high-end VR headset utilizing 60GHz wireless technology to bypass traditional video encoding. By leveraging eye-tracking to transmit native GPU images directly to the user’s focus area, the device aims to eliminate common streaming artifacts and latency issues.

The Crystal Pro distinguishes itself with a 2x2 MIMO wireless link, a first for the industry, capable of 6 Gbps throughput and sub-2ms latency via an optional 60G AirLink kit. The headset features 2880 x 2880 QLED panels per eye with 120Hz refresh rates and aspheric glass lenses. Rather than housing an internal battery, it relies on a 16,000mAh external power pack to maintain its slim profile. Tracking is handled through a hybrid system combining SLAM 2.0 with optional Lighthouse support and LiDAR-equipped faceplates.

Alongside the headset, the company introduced ringless controllers that utilize infrared and motion sensors to reduce latency to under 15ms. The hardware ecosystem expands further with the Spation mini-PC, a compact desktop housing an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with either an AMD RX 9070 XT or Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti. The Crystal Pro starts at $1,399, with the full wireless bundle priced at $1,899. While Pimax has opened $1 reservations, specific shipping timelines and pricing for the peripherals remain forthcoming.
