Bobby Stuckey Named First Recipient of Gianfranco Sorrentino Award

Master Sommelier and restaurateur Bobby Stuckey has been named the inaugural winner of the Gianfranco Sorrentino Award for Italian Excellence. The honor, established by Vinitaly.USA to celebrate champions of authentic Italian hospitality and culture in the United States, will be presented on October 26 in New York City.

Stuckey, the Colorado-based founder of Frasca Hospitality Group, built his reputation by bringing high-end Italian wine and cuisine to the American heartland. His career includes founding the Friuli-focused Scarpetta Wine and the boutique import company Benvenusa. Since earning his Master Sommelier diploma in 2004, he has secured multiple James Beard Foundation accolades, cementing his influence in the industry.

Veronafiere president Federico Bricolo noted that the award serves to recognize individuals who mirror the late Gianfranco Sorrentino’s dedication to service and quality. Sorrentino, a Naples native who opened the iconic Il Gattopardo in New York in 2001, was a prominent advocate for the 'Made in Italy' label. His widow, Paula Bolla-Sorrentino, described the award as a fitting tribute to a man who championed uncompromising culinary standards and the refined art of the Italian table.
