Laser Research Optics Expands Zinc Selenide Window Production

Rhode Island-based Laser Research Optics has launched a new line of custom zinc selenide windows engineered specifically for high-energy and directed-energy laser platforms. These components target critical defense applications where minimizing optical loss and thermal distortion remains the primary hurdle for maintaining consistent beam quality.

The new windows, manufactured to ISO-10110 standards, arrive in diameters ranging from 0.5 to 5 inches. To accommodate diverse system architectures, the company offers round, rectangular, and square geometries, including plano-convex, plano-concave, and wedged configurations. Each unit can be tailored with mounting features like steps or holes to integrate directly into existing OEM hardware.

Performance metrics for the optics include surface flatness reaching 1/20th wave and scratch-dig finishes spanning from 10-5 to 80-50. These windows are optimized for wavelengths between 7 and 11 micrometers, with dimensional tolerances held between ±0.001 and ±0.005 inches. Sales manager Scott Rouillard confirmed that pricing for the components depends on individual configuration and order volume, with formal quotes available upon request through the Providence facility.
