The infrastructure upgrade spans approximately 10,000 feet of new piping, transitioning from older 16-inch and 20-inch mains to larger 24-inch and 36-inch diameters. This expansion allows for greater water flow from the Borman Park Water Treatment Plant, addressing the frequent breaks that previously plagued the aging system. By installing ductile iron and PVC materials, the utility aims to secure long-term service stability for the regional distribution network.
Beyond technical capacity, the project aligns with broader public health initiatives by eliminating lead service lines discovered during the construction phase. According to senior engineering manager Jacquelyne Byland, the replacement effort was comprehensive for every identified lead line within the work zone. Rex Construction acted as the primary contractor for the initiative, which serves as a cornerstone of Indiana American Water’s ongoing $200 million annual investment strategy across the state.
