Walmart and Wing Expand Drone Delivery to Seattle and Denver

Walmart and Wing are scaling their automated delivery network, targeting a 2027 rollout in the Seattle and Denver metropolitan areas. This expansion aims to integrate 30-minute drone shipping for thousands of retail items, ultimately connecting over 270 Walmart stores and serving 40 million potential customers across the United States.

The partnership, which has already established a footprint in markets including Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, Houston, and Orlando, currently reaches three million customers. By leveraging Wing’s aerial technology, the companies intend to provide a rapid alternative for essential home goods. Wing’s aircraft, capable of speeds reaching 60 mph, can transport packages weighing up to five pounds directly to residential locations.

Company leadership views the move as a response to shifting consumer habits and the necessity for localized, high-speed convenience. Greg Cathey, Walmart’s Senior Vice President of eCommerce Transformation, noted that the proximity of existing stores to residential communities makes them ideal hubs for this logistical shift. Local officials, including Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell, have welcomed the technology, framing it as a catalyst for regional innovation and infrastructure growth.
