Morrisons appoints Mohsen Ghasempour as Chief AI Officer

Morrisons has appointed Mohsen Ghasempour to the newly created role of Chief AI Officer, tasking the former Kingfisher executive with building a central data science and artificial intelligence function. The move marks a significant step in the UK grocery retailer’s strategy to integrate advanced technology into its core operations.

CEO Rami Baitiéh confirmed the appointment, emphasizing the need for a focused approach to digital transformation. Ghasempour, who previously served as Chief AI Officer at Kingfisher since March 2024, is expected to deploy AI-driven solutions across the supermarket’s manufacturing, commercial, and operational divisions. The leadership team aims to leverage these tools to boost customer growth and provide staff with technology that delivers measurable business impact.

Baitiéh highlighted Ghasempour’s track record at Kingfisher, where he scaled AI operations across European markets under the guidance of Thierry Garnier. By centralizing data functions, Morrisons intends to move away from fragmented digital efforts toward a more cohesive, tech-forward strategy. This appointment follows a broader trend of retail giants recruiting high-level specialists to oversee the integration of machine learning and data analytics into the traditional grocery model.
