The EPCORE DLBCL-2 study, which evaluated the combination therapy against standard R-CHOP alone, demonstrated a 51% reduction in the risk of disease progression or death. The results were deemed statistically significant and clinically meaningful, prompting an Independent Data Monitoring Committee to recommend unblinding the study ahead of schedule.
Dr. Gilles Salles of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center noted that the findings could prove practice-changing for clinicians managing aggressive lymphoma. AbbVie and Genmab now plan to initiate discussions with global regulatory authorities to determine the path toward potential approval for this frontline treatment. The drug, which works by directing T-cells to attack CD20+ cancer cells, remains under investigation for these specific indications.
