Primitive Labs Secures Sony Funding to Model Human Behavior

San Francisco-based startup Primitive Labs has secured investment from Sony Innovation Fund to accelerate development of Instinct, an enterprise platform designed to simulate human decision-making. By moving beyond simple action prediction, the company aims to provide developers with a deeper understanding of how users form goals and navigate digital experiences.

The platform integrates user research, behavioral data, and product analytics to create simulated customer populations. These simulations allow product teams to test digital environments before deployment, identifying potential friction points in user funnels or onboarding processes. By training systems to reason like humans—accounting for pressures like uncertainty and time—the software helps enterprises de-risk product launches.

CEO Rohit Talluri, who co-founded the company alongside Jean Farmer and Gabriel Fong, argues that understanding user behavior should be a native capability of technology rather than a reactive afterthought. The startup, which also counts Andreessen Horowitz’s a16z speedrun among its backers, is currently applying its models across sectors including e-commerce, gaming, and media. Future expansion plans target high-stakes fields such as healthcare and financial services, where decision-making patterns are critical to user success.
