The report analyzed 36 launches in 2025, finding that 51% exceeded consensus revenue forecasts—a significant jump over the historical four-year average of 39%. This success occurred despite a turbulent backdrop marked by drug-pricing policy uncertainty, funding pressures at the FDA and NIH, and a 2.5-fold increase in M&A activity, which reached $113.3 billion.
Krista Perry, Partner and Head of Launch Excellence at Trinity, noted that top performers did not wait for market stability before acting. Instead, these companies invested early and executed commercial strategies with precision. Oncology proved to be a standout category, with 90% of new products exceeding revenue forecasts, some by as much as 700%. Notably, this surge in performance happened even as first-in-class therapies declined by 39% compared to the previous year, highlighting that robust commercialization strategies, rather than scientific novelty alone, drove the results.
Case studies of successful launches, including Insmed’s Brinsupri, Ionis Pharmaceuticals’ Tryngolza, and BridgeBio Pharma’s Attruby, underscored a shared playbook: early patient identification, comprehensive support services, and proactive efforts to reduce access barriers. While the industry faces ongoing challenges in crowded therapeutic markets, the 2025 class demonstrates that deep preparation and a focus on the patient journey remain the primary levers for commercial success.
