Global Coalition Launches '30x30x50' Challenge to Combat Brain Disease

A newly formed international coalition, coordinated by the Atria Research and Global Health Institute, has launched a multisector campaign to bridge the gap between neurological research and daily clinical practice. The initiative aims to reduce stroke incidence by 30 percent and expand cognitive screening in 30 cities by 2031.

The International Brain Health Coalition (IBC) brings together medical experts, technology firms, and organizations like UN Women to transform established science into accessible community care. Rather than focusing on new research, the coalition intends to build the infrastructure necessary to implement existing knowledge regarding the prevention of dementia and stroke. The project targets the unsustainable economic and personal toll of neurological conditions, which currently lack integrated, large-scale delivery models.

Dr. David Dodick, Chair of the IBC, described the current landscape as an execution failure rather than a lack of scientific understanding. To address this, the coalition has launched the 30x30x50 Brain Challenge, with London, Ontario, and Oslo, Norway, serving as the first two demonstration sites. In London, the CanDo Brain Health Implementation Initiative uses AI-driven coaching to monitor blood pressure and lifestyle factors for 800 participants. Meanwhile, Oslo’s AI-Mind environment employs multimodal diagnostics and longitudinal monitoring to identify individuals at high risk before symptoms manifest. The coalition includes major partners such as Microsoft, Eli Lilly, and the American Heart Association, all aiming to integrate brain health into routine primary care and population-level health strategies.
