Last year, the program provided nearly $7.7 million in tax relief to qualifying homeowners across the state. To participate, residents must demonstrate a household income of $57,002 or less for the 2025 tax year, maintain at least 40 percent equity in their home, and hold no reverse mortgage on the property. Applicants are required to reapply annually to confirm their ongoing eligibility.
Because funding for the program is limited, the Controller’s office will process applications in the order they are received. Approved participants will have a lien placed on their property or a security agreement filed for manufactured homes until the deferred balance is settled. The window for submissions closes on February 10, 2027. Residents seeking to apply or verify their status can contact the office at (800) 952-5661 or reach out via email to [email protected].
