Ochsner Opens $120 Million Neuroscience Institute in New Orleans

Ochsner Health has unveiled The Debra H. and Robert J. Patrick Neuroscience Institute, a 132,000-square-foot facility in New Orleans designed to centralize complex neurological care. Opening October 5, the center serves as a regional hub for the Gulf South, bridging the gap between advanced clinical treatment and specialized rehabilitation.

The four-story institute represents a $120 million investment, consolidating neurology, neurosurgery, behavioral health, and wellness programs under one roof. By grouping these disciplines, Ochsner aims to shift from reactive treatments to proactive, long-term brain health strategies. The facility is the only one of its kind situated between Houston and Atlanta, positioning Ochsner to manage increasingly complex cases with greater coordination.

Innovation sits at the core of the new campus, highlighted by the Team Gleason Assistive Technology Lab. This space provides patients living with ALS and other mobility-limiting conditions access to communication devices and environmental control systems. Furthermore, the Parker Family BioDesign Lab allows clinicians to utilize 3D modeling to refine surgical approaches. To ensure the future of the field, the institute also houses the Patrick Neuroscience Academy, an initiative dedicated to training the next generation of specialists through fellowships, research support, and workforce development. With more than 100 specialists on staff, the program—already ranked in the nation's top 10% by U.S. News & World Report—now possesses the infrastructure to expand its clinical trials and multidisciplinary research efforts.
