SmartAC Targets HVAC Market with Affordable Gen2 Sensor

Nearly 80% of residential HVAC systems remain invisible to service contractors, operating without any formal maintenance oversight. SmartAC aims to bridge this gap with its new Gen2 sensor, a low-cost, wire-free hardware device designed to bring real-time system intelligence to homes that were previously out of reach.

The Gen2 unit eliminates the traditional barriers of installation complexity and Wi-Fi dependency, retailing at a subscription price of $5 per month. By simplifying deployment, SmartAC allows contractors to monitor equipment that previously fell outside of maintenance agreements. This hardware feeds into a proprietary intelligence model developed over three years, which utilizes performance data from more than 90,000 connected homes to identify mechanical issues before they escalate into emergency repairs.

Under the guidance of Chief Technology Officer Matt Robillard, the engineering team designed this model to interpret system physics and behavior from a single data point. Instead of merely triggering basic alerts, the system contextualizes performance against climate data and comparable local installations to pinpoint specific mechanical failures. For contractors, this capability transforms reactive service calls into proactive management opportunities, ensuring that technicians arrive at a residence with a clear diagnostic roadmap rather than starting from scratch.
