Valqari Claims Third Spot in Global Drone Innovation Ranking

LexisNexis has ranked Chicago-based Valqari as the world’s third most innovative drone startup, citing the company’s extensive intellectual property portfolio. The assessment, conducted via the Patent Asset Index, evaluated the strength, technological value, and global reach of private companies currently shaping autonomous delivery infrastructure.

While much of the drone industry has focused on flight capabilities, Valqari has spent nearly a decade securing the ground-based infrastructure necessary for scalable operations. The company’s patent portfolio, which encompasses over 75 granted patents and 1,190 claims, covers critical elements like automated docking stations, secure payload vaults, and AI-driven logistics networks. This intellectual property footprint expanded significantly in 2025 following the acquisition of Skydrop, formerly known as Flirtey.

Ryan Walsh, CEO and Co-Founder of Valqari, noted that the industry’s primary hurdle remains the secure handoff and chain of custody for packages. By focusing on these logistical bottlenecks, Valqari has positioned its technology as a foundational layer for sectors including healthcare, emergency response, and defense. With the industry bracing for updated FAA regulations, the company’s ability to prove chain of custody and protect payloads is becoming a competitive advantage. The LexisNexis ranking underscores this shift, as the analysis specifically filtered for companies with demonstrated flying technology, excluding passenger-carrying eVTOL aircraft to focus on logistics and delivery.
