DTE Energy finishes 100-megawatt Cold Creek Solar Park

The 100-megawatt Cold Creek Solar Park near Coldwater, Michigan, is now operational, marking a significant step in the state’s transition to carbon-free electricity. The project, spearheaded by DTE Energy, serves as a cornerstone for Ford Motor Company’s pledge to power its Michigan manufacturing plants with 100% renewable energy by 2027.

This facility operates under DTE’s MIGreenPower program, an initiative allowing corporate partners to source clean energy directly from local infrastructure. Ford’s commitment involves purchasing up to 650 megawatts of renewable power through this scheme, ensuring that every vehicle produced within the state will soon rely on carbon-free electricity. Matt Paul, president and COO of DTE Electric, noted that the park demonstrates the impact of collaborative investment in accelerating the regional energy transition.

Beyond direct corporate benefits, the project contributes to Michigan’s broader environmental targets, which mandate 60% renewable energy usage by 2035. The site adds to DTE’s existing portfolio of 20 wind and 36 solar parks, which currently supply enough power for nearly 1 million homes. For local municipalities, the development provides a steady stream of tax revenue and new job opportunities, reinforcing the utility’s strategy to expand its footprint while meeting net-zero emission goals.
