Under the theme "How to Be the Next," the three-day event transforms the Armour J. Blackburn University Center into a hub for emerging creators. Actors Laya DeLeon Hayes and DaSan Frazier will serve as the 2026 I Aspire Ambassadors, presiding over the Salute THEM Awards where winners of the HBCU First LOOK Film Challenge will be awarded $5,000 and internship opportunities. This year’s programming draws from a pool of over 450 entries, reflecting the festival's growing role in building a professional pipeline for students.
The festival schedule features high-profile master classes and industry panels. Autumn Bailey-Ford will tackle the global nature of film production, while Nicky Micheaux leads a session on vertical storytelling. Grammy-winning producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are set to explore the intersection of music and film. Beyond technical workshops, the event celebrates the 2026 I Aspire 25, an honoree list featuring industry figures such as Michael Strahan and Eva Marcille. According to founder Sheila Eldridge, the festival is uniquely student-driven, with 12 Howard University students directly involved in producing the event’s programming and interactive elements.
