The integration combines Tellabs’ established Optical LAN platform and its deep footprint in education, healthcare, and transportation with Zhone’s existing broadband and Ethernet infrastructure. By folding these operations into its own, Zhone gains access to a significant installed customer base and specialized federal relationships that were previously core to the Tellabs portfolio.
Clayton Zekelman, Chairman and CEO of Zhone, framed the move as a foundational step in the company’s long-term growth strategy, emphasizing the potential for accelerated innovation. Rich Schroder, who served as CEO of Tellabs, noted that the partnership provides a broader global stage for their existing technology suite. Both companies have confirmed that business operations will proceed without interruption while they navigate the transition process and align their service delivery models.
