Nanjiani, a self-described cat enthusiast who has owned felines for 18 years, views the partnership as a natural fit. He notes that the brand’s creative approach to the mundane chore of cleaning up after his pets—including his one-year-old kitten, Biscuit—mirrors his own comedic sensibilities. For Nanjiani, who considers himself a writer first, the project provided a chance to lean into his love for Law and Order-style tropes while collaborating with Howlett, whom he praised for his improvisational skills.
Beyond the screen, Nanjiani remains focused on a packed slate of upcoming work. He is currently wrapping production on the fourth season of The White Lotus, which he describes as the show's most ambitious installment to date, and recently joined the cast of Judd Apatow’s The Comeback King. Looking ahead, Nanjiani is preparing to step into the director’s chair for the first time with a horror project titled Howl.
Fans can watch the first episode of the Special Litter Unit beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, on the brand's Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube channels. New York City residents also have the opportunity to participate in a one-day pop-up experience, The Stakeout: Litter Crimes HQ, located at 45 Grand in SoHo on Friday, Oct. 2. The event will feature interactive missions and adoptable cats from Petfinder.
