The agreement centers on Syzygy’s NovaSAF platform, which utilizes proprietary Rigel photocatalytic reactor technology to convert biogas into aviation fuel. With the NovaSAF-1 project in Uruguay nearing a final investment decision, the partnership provides a critical supply pathway for the European market, where demand is rising under the ReFuelEU and CORSIA frameworks.
Trevor Best, CEO of Syzygy Plasmonics, noted that the deal signals a shift in market momentum as companies scramble to meet mandated production volumes. For Uniper, the collaboration serves as a strategic expansion of its existing low-carbon energy portfolio. Benedikt Messner, SVP of New Energies at Uniper, described the investment as a necessary step to secure competitive supply in a sector poised for significant growth.
