Lutris Pharma reports durable results for acne-treating gel

Lutris Pharma has unveiled updated Phase 2 clinical data showing its topical gel, LUT014, significantly reduces severe acneiform rashes in cancer patients undergoing EGFR inhibitor therapy. Presented at the EADV Congress in Vienna, the findings suggest the treatment improves skin health while helping patients maintain their vital anti-cancer medication regimens.

The study involved 118 colorectal cancer patients suffering from dermatological side effects caused by common cancer drugs like cetuximab or panitumumab. Clinical success reached 71.8% among those treated with the 0.1% LUT014 gel, compared to 38.5% for the placebo group. Researchers noted that the benefits remained durable through day 55, well beyond the initial 28-day application window.

Beyond treating physical lesions, the gel appears to improve therapy adherence. Only 10.3% of patients using the gel discontinued or reduced their primary cancer treatment due to rash-related complications, a marked improvement over the 28.2% non-adherence rate observed in the placebo group. Dr. Anisha Patel of MD Anderson Cancer Center, who presented the data, highlighted that the gel’s mechanism—which reactivates suppressed MAPK signaling in the skin—offers a targeted solution without interfering with the systemic anti-cancer effects of the primary medication. Following these results, the company intends to expand its research to evaluate the gel’s efficacy in patients receiving other MAPK-pathway inhibitors, including those treated for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
