Baptist Health and PAM Health Expand Regional Care Capacity

To meet surging demand across Northwest Florida and South Alabama, Baptist Health Care and PAM Health are restructuring their joint venture to add 100 specialized beds to the region. The pivot shifts rehabilitation services to a new freestanding facility while boosting acute care capacity at the main hospital campus.

The revised strategy abandons an earlier plan to house rehabilitation services within the Henderson Health Center. Instead, PAM Health will develop a 60-bed freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital at Baptist Medical Park – Nine Mile. This shift grants the facility enough space for advanced therapy gyms and specialized clinical programs designed for complex recoveries.

Baptist Hospital will repurpose the vacated Henderson Health Center space to install 40 new acute care beds, raising its total capacity from 279 to 319. Executives describe the move as a necessary response to persistent regional shortages in inpatient care. The new acute care unit is slated to open later this year, while timelines for the Nine Mile rehabilitation campus will follow in subsequent announcements.
