Premier League Appoints Simon Pakenham-Walsh as Tech and Data Chief

Simon Pakenham-Walsh has joined the Premier League as Chief Technology and Data Officer, marking a significant shift for the football organization as it deepens its focus on digital infrastructure. He transitions to the role following a tenure as Chief Information Officer at fashion retailer River Island.

Pakenham-Walsh brings a diverse background in consumer technology to the top tier of English football. His resume includes previous leadership positions such as Chief Technology Officer at Sweaty Betty and Vice President of Consumer Technology at Wolverine Worldwide. In a statement regarding his appointment, he noted that the role offers a unique opportunity to merge his professional expertise in data systems with his interest in the sporting industry.

His departure from River Island coincides with a broader leadership reshuffle at the retailer, which recently appointed SJ Grabiec as its new Customer Director. Grabiec, who previously spent 15 years at AllSaints, now oversees a wide portfolio at River Island, ranging from CRM and paid media to user experience and customer operations.
