Carnival Corporation Staff Join Global Coastal Cleanup Effort

Volunteer teams representing the cruise giant’s various lines and its Center for Simulation and Maritime Training (CSMART) participated in coordinated environmental actions across North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Australia. In Miami, staff gathered at Oleta River State Park, while teams in Seattle partnered with local nonprofits to clear Myrtle Edwards Park. In Europe, Costa Cruises employees intercepted nearly 400 pounds of trash along riverbanks, preventing the refuse from drifting into wider marine environments.

Lars Ljoen, chief maritime officer of Carnival Corporation, emphasized that protecting the waterways is fundamental to the company’s operations. These localized efforts contribute to a broader sustainability strategy that saw the company conduct nearly 100 cleanup events in 2025, removing over 33,000 pounds of debris. The participation aligns with the Ocean Conservancy-led event, which has engaged 19 million volunteers worldwide over the past four decades to combat ocean pollution.
