Ohio State and Google Forge Large-Scale AI Research Partnership

The partnership grants faculty and researchers access to a comprehensive suite of over 200 AI models, including Google DeepMind’s AlphaFold and AlphaEvolve. These tools are designed to shorten discovery timelines in fields ranging from biomedical engineering to earth sciences. A notable component, Project SCARLET, will utilize computer vision and predictive analytics to optimize health and performance for the university’s student athletes across 36 sports.

Beyond research, the collaboration introduces a campus-wide AI fluency program. Students will gain access to Gemini Enterprise tools and a 24/7 virtual assistant built on Google Cloud to streamline academic advising and career planning. The initiative also debuts an exclusive research ambassador program, allowing students to work directly alongside Google engineering teams. According to Ohio State President Ravi V. Bellamkonda, the partnership aims to provide scalable innovation for the university’s 68,000-strong student body and faculty, effectively merging high-performance computing with traditional academic inquiry.
