Login.gov Integrates Mobile Driver’s Licenses for Identity Verification

Login.gov is rolling out support for mobile driver’s licenses, allowing users to verify their identities through cryptographically secure digital credentials. This update, spearheaded by Xcelerate Solutions and Socure, aims to modernize government access while reducing reliance on physical identification documents through ISO/IEC 18013 standards.

The integration moves identity proofing into a mobile-centric framework, utilizing the FedRAMP Moderate environment to manage the influx of digital credentials. By leveraging Socure’s AI-native risk infrastructure, the system performs real-time behavioral analytics and fraud detection to counter synthetic identities and automated cyber threats. This shift allows for tamper-evident verification, ensuring that the digital interaction remains as secure as a traditional in-person document check.

Jim Dufford, Vice President at Xcelerate Solutions, noted that the move aligns with the government's mandate to provide seamless, private, and secure access to public services. Jordan Burris, Head of Public Sector at Socure, emphasized that these verifiable credentials provide a necessary defense against organized networks that exploit legacy systems. The partnership combines machine learning and biometric verification to streamline the user experience, making government service access more accessible for millions of Americans.
