The technology addresses a persistent supply chain vulnerability where fluctuating temperatures and inadequate cooling trigger condensation within standard laminated pouches. By integrating advanced flexible-film engineering, the Xgo™ PAZ pouch maintains a modified atmosphere while actively regulating moisture levels. This prevents the mold and decay that typically force retailers to discard moisture-sensitive produce.
Wholesum Family Farms has adopted this format for its Lil' Ones™ Organic Baby Cucumbers, reporting significant quality improvements in shelf-life testing. Compared to traditional macro-perforated packaging, the new pouches showed a 10 percentage-point advantage in overall quality after 16 days. Beyond cucumbers, the pouches are gaining traction with exotic fruit suppliers like Florida-based Freshway Produce, Inc., which uses the technology to eliminate the need for costly repacking of items like lychee and rambutan. Gary Ward, CTO for StePacPPC, notes that the film's water vapor transmission rate is customizable, allowing the packaging to be tuned to the specific physiological needs of different fruits and vegetables.
