Corteva and Inari End Patent Litigation with Confidential Settlement

A two-year legal battle over agricultural intellectual property has ended as Corteva and Inari reached a confidential settlement agreement. The resolution, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, forces a total reset of the disputed seed technologies and establishes a new path for commercial collaboration.

Under the terms of the agreement, Inari must destroy all Corteva materials previously accessed from seed depositories. Furthermore, the company will assign all intellectual property rights derived from its edited versions of Corteva events back to the parent firm. Beyond these concessions, both parties have committed to enter negotiations for future licensing arrangements, effectively shifting their relationship from litigation to potential partnership.

The lawsuit, originally filed in September 2023, centered on the unauthorized use of biological materials protected by global patent and plant variety systems. Both companies emphasized that the outcome reinforces the necessity of adhering to contract laws governing seed deposits. While the financial specifics remain private, the settlement preserves the integrity of the patent depositories that underpin agricultural research and development.
