FairPlay Audit Validates Prism Data's CashScore for Fairness

Lenders relying on traditional credit scores often overlook creditworthy individuals, but a new independent assessment suggests that cash flow underwriting may bridge this gap. FairPlay’s latest audit of Prism Data’s CashScore indicates that utilizing real-time deposit transaction data can expand financial access without introducing discriminatory lending disparities.

The study examined whether Prism’s underwriting tool—which evaluates financial risk based on bank account transactions—unintentionally relies on proxies for protected status. FairPlay’s analysis confirmed that CashScore avoids these pitfalls, showing no statistically significant differences in outcomes between protected and non-protected classes on a risk-adjusted basis. Furthermore, the assessment found that consumers across all demographics were equally likely to possess sufficient transaction data to generate a score.

Kareem Saleh, CEO of FairPlay, emphasized that widening the lens of borrower evaluation is only viable if it avoids compounding existing social imbalances. According to Jason Rosen, CEO of Prism Data, this validation reinforces a decade-long effort to integrate compliance and transparency into cash flow modeling. By moving beyond traditional credit files, the companies aim to provide lenders with a more granular, inclusive view of an applicant's actual financial health.
