While Lucasfilm has yet to provide an official confirmation, reports indicate that the upcoming films are being developed as Episodes X through XII. The project remains in the early stages of development and has not yet received a formal greenlight, a status that has drawn comparisons to the previously scrapped film The Hunt for Ben Solo.
Simon Kinberg has been developing the story treatment for the trilogy since late 2024. Outgoing Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy previously noted that the studio had been refining Kinberg’s vision, with the narrative scope potentially extending the franchise timeline well into the 2030s. The studio continues to navigate a complex development slate, having previously set aside pitch concepts from directors like Steven Soderbergh. Fans can expect the next theatrical entry, Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, to arrive in May 2027.
