Sylvester Stallone Details the Physical Toll of His Rocky Era

Sylvester Stallone has revealed the hidden health costs behind his legendary action-hero physique, admitting that the pressure to maintain a superhuman appearance for his iconic roles led to a struggle with bulimia and the use of steroids during the height of his career.

The 80-year-old actor detailed his experience in a recent profile, describing how the pursuit of physical perfection morphed into a dangerous obsession. During the preparation for Rocky III, Stallone reached 2.6 percent body fat, a state he sustained by refusing to keep food down. He characterized the regimen as an "obsessive body-worship kind of thing" that made healthy eating impossible.

Beyond his dietary struggles, Stallone confirmed he utilized six-week steroid cycles to survive the grueling production demands of his most famous franchises. He argued that maintaining such extreme muscle mass while filming over several months was not achievable naturally. The actor eventually found a degree of liberation through his 1997 role in Cop Land, which allowed him to step away from the rigid aesthetic expectations of his earlier career. While that shift led to a period of professional uncertainty, he has since found renewed success in television with the series Tulsa King.
