Matthew Csik, vice president of water quality and environmental compliance, emphasizes that clean drinking water starts long before it reaches a tap. The company manages a comprehensive protection program that includes nearly one million annual laboratory tests and active collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to address emerging contaminants and filtration challenges.

Beyond corporate infrastructure, the utility is promoting individual responsibility to curb urban runoff. Residents are encouraged to replace concrete surfaces with permeable mulch, utilize native landscaping to minimize chemical fertilizer needs, and properly dispose of household hazardous waste. The company notes that common practices—such as picking up pet waste and avoiding the flushing of pharmaceuticals—remain critical to preventing bacteria and chemicals from compromising the water supply.
