Leapfrog Group Names Retired Vice Admiral Raquel Bono as Board Chair

Bono brings extensive experience in large-scale health systems to the role, having previously managed a $50 billion global network serving millions of military personnel and their families. Her appointment coincides with a broader leadership refresh, including the election of new board officers and the addition of two members: Laurel Pickering, head of the Gateway Business Health Coalition, and veteran health care attorney Dan Roble. Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, noted that Bono’s background is uniquely suited to the organization's mission, citing their prior collaboration on improving care quality for military families. The incoming chair emphasized a focus on advancing patient safety and transparency, particularly through the organization’s recent expansion into geriatric surgery standards developed alongside the American College of Surgeons. Founded in 2000, the nonprofit continues to influence the industry by publishing hospital safety grades and performance data to assist consumers and employers in making informed health care decisions.
