Michelle Williams Returns to College at 47 to Study Psychology

Williams announced the news on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself wearing a shirt from the Virginia-based institution. She admitted that she initially kept the transition quiet, even from close friends and family, due to a lingering fear of failing to complete the program. Beyond the academic challenge, the singer joked that she chose her major because “y’all need help,” a comment that resonated with fans who flooded her social media with messages of support and encouragement.

This academic path marks a return to her roots. After graduating from Rockford Auburn High School in 1997, Williams originally studied criminal justice, uncertain if a singing career would prove viable. She left after two years to tour as a backing vocalist for R&B singer Monica, a decision that eventually led to global stardom. While balancing her studies, Williams continues to perform, recently delivering a two-night set at the Baha Mar resort in Nassau, Bahamas, where she revisited hits like “Say My Name” and “Cater 2 U.”
