The initiative, presented by Target, features hundreds of local events ranging from scavenger hunts and city tours to multicultural festivals. These gatherings are designed to integrate relocating families into their new neighborhoods. Two marquee events, dubbed "All Hands on Deck: To Nourish The Service," will take place in San Diego and Hampton, Virginia, where volunteers plan to distribute 2,000 pantry kits to families navigating the financial strain of recent moves.
Research from Blue Star Families underscores the urgency of these efforts. With military families moving three times as often as their civilian counterparts, the stability of children's education and the overall sense of community are frequently disrupted. CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet noted that the program serves as a tangible way for "Everyday Americans" to move beyond mere gratitude and take active steps in supporting those who serve. This year’s focus remains particularly sharp on military children, who must repeatedly navigate the social and academic challenges of starting over in new schools and cities.
