Chad Gilbert, New Found Glory Guitarist, Dies at 45

Surrounded by his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, and his mother, Jackie, New Found Glory founding guitarist Chad Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 20. His death follows a grueling years-long struggle with a rare form of adrenal cancer, marking the end of a nearly three-decade career in music.

The band confirmed the news through an emotional statement, noting that Gilbert died exactly as he wished, with his closest family by his side. While the official cause of death remains undisclosed, Gilbert had been transparent about his health battles since 2021. He underwent emergency surgery after being found unresponsive, revealing a large pheochromocytoma tumor that eventually spread to his spine and lungs.

Formed in 1997 in Coral Springs, Florida, New Found Glory defined a generation of pop-punk, with Gilbert serving as the group's primary songwriter and creative engine. His bandmates—Jordan Pundik, Ian Grushka, Cyrus Bolooki, and Dan O’Connor—credited his relentless drive and humor for the band’s longevity across more than a dozen albums. Beyond his professional achievements, the group emphasized that Gilbert viewed his role as a husband to Cimorelli and a father to their daughter, Lily, as his greatest success. His influence remains woven into the band’s identity, with his peers promising that his spirit will persist in every note they play.
