The scrapped storyline, which serves as the second book in the franchise, centers on Jack Reacher confronting a white supremacist militia. While Ritchson did not explicitly name the president in his post, his comments regarding a re-election suggest the material was deemed too volatile for the current political climate. This decision highlights the ongoing challenge of balancing Lee Child’s original source material with modern sensibilities.

Amazon has already demonstrated a willingness to modernize sensitive narratives, most notably in Season 4. By adapting the 2009 novel Gone Tomorrow, producers stripped away its post-9/11 geopolitical focus on terrorism and the war in Afghanistan to better suit a contemporary audience. Despite the loss of Die Trying, the series is moving forward with a new mystery for Season 5, which follows Reacher to the town of Mother’s Rest to investigate a missing-person case alongside private investigator Michelle Chang.
