Lori Heafner Named President of Horry-Georgetown Technical College

After a nationwide search, the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Area Commission has appointed Dr. Lori A. Heafner to lead the institution. Heafner, who currently serves as the college’s vice president for academic affairs, will transition into the role of president on January 4, 2027, succeeding the current administration.

The appointment follows a series of campus forums and finalist interviews held at the Conway location. Robert P. Hucks, II, chairman of the commission, highlighted Heafner’s two-decade tenure at the college as a primary factor in the decision, noting her familiarity with both the regional workforce and the internal operations of the institution. Her background encompasses extensive experience in strategic planning, institutional accreditation, and community partnerships.

Heafner’s career began at Cleveland Community College, and she later earned her doctorate in educational sciences from Coastal Carolina University. Since joining the faculty in 2006, she has managed academic affairs and institutional effectiveness initiatives. In her new capacity, she intends to focus on expanding workforce pathways and strengthening the college's existing ties with local business leaders and K-12 school districts. The selection process was facilitated by the Association of Community College Trustees, which vetted candidates to replace the outgoing leadership.
