Binance Enters FX Market with Perpetual Futures

Binance is expanding its TradFi perpetual product line to include foreign exchange, launching a USDT-settled USDBRL contract on September 21, 2026. This move marks the exchange’s first foray into FX, aiming to provide continuous price discovery for the Brazilian Real even when traditional financial markets are closed.

The new USDBRLUSDT perpetual contract is designed to bridge liquidity gaps that occur during weekends and holidays in traditional finance. By utilizing a dual-mode pricing framework, the exchange shifts from a weighted average of third-party data during regular business hours to an Orderbook Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) when conventional liquidity thins. According to Shunyet Jan, Head of Exchange and Trading at Binance, this structure allows traders to hedge macro exposure and express market views around the clock, independent of standard banking schedules.

Binance has leveraged internal data to justify the expansion, noting that its existing gold and equity perpetuals have become primary venues for price discovery. Research indicates that weekend price movements on the platform correctly predicted Monday opening gaps for gold approximately 89% of the time earlier this year. Similarly, during recent volatility in the AI and semiconductor sectors, the exchange captured over 50% of combined weekend volume across major venues, significantly outperforming competitors. The new FX offerings will be accessible via web, app, and API under the platform's TradFi tab, supporting up to 100x leverage.
