The conflict surfaced on September 16 when Hindy, a Canadian-Egyptian comedian, alleged that her working relationship with Handler soured after she began speaking out about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. According to Hindy, her manager suggested she was being pushed out of tour dates because of her stance, leading her to withdraw from remaining shows. Hindy further claims that Handler has since threatened legal action, accusing her of making libelous statements.
Handler countered these assertions by posting screenshots of emails and messages on social media to refute the narrative. One exchange from January 2024 shows Hindy informing the host that she was unable to perform the remaining four shows of the tour. Handler maintained that she would never terminate a professional relationship based on political disagreement, stating that Hindy’s own agents confirmed the comedian chose to exit the tour. Hindy later clarified that while the emails were not direct termination notices, she felt the professional environment had become untenable. The public exchange highlights the broader tensions within Hollywood regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a topic Handler has navigated by advocating for both Palestinian human rights and Israel’s security, while simultaneously defending figures like Mark Ruffalo against accusations of antisemitism.
