DelCam Capital merges Gemcom into Space Age Electronics platform

With nearly four decades of engineering history behind it, Burr Ridge-based Gemcom, Inc. has been acquired by Space Age Electronics. The deal integrates Gemcom’s specialty fire suppression switches and graphic annunciators into the Massachusetts-based manufacturer’s national distribution network, significantly broadening their combined footprint in the life safety equipment market.

Gemcom will now operate under the Space Age Electronics umbrella, gaining immediate access to an infrastructure that supports over 1,000 fire systems integrators nationwide. For Space Age Electronics, the acquisition provides a shortcut to established OEM design-in relationships that would otherwise require years of organic development. Matt Grady, CEO of Space Age Electronics, noted that the hardware from the Illinois-based company serves as a natural complement to their current portfolio, allowing for a more integrated approach to fire detection and suppression projects.

John Kelly, who led the family-owned Gemcom for years, cited a shared commitment to product quality and industry stewardship as the primary driver for the transition. Managing Partner Steve Trotta of DelCam Capital framed the acquisition as part of a larger strategy to consolidate essential manufacturing businesses within the fire and life safety sector. By combining resources, the firm intends to accelerate investment in engineering and manufacturing quality. Employees across the newly expanded platform will participate in ownership, a move designed to align management and investor interests with long-term growth in this mission-critical industrial market.
