Irish Radio Pulls Ed Sheeran From Airwaves Amid Macklemore Tour Fallout

Classic Hits Radio has removed Ed Sheeran’s music from its playlist, joining a growing list of artists and venues distancing themselves from the singer’s Loop Tour following the controversial removal of rapper Macklemore. The station cited listener feedback and solidarity with Irish artists as the primary drivers for the decision.

The station’s group program director, Dave Kelly, confirmed the ban will remain in place for the foreseeable future. He stated that the move was a response to the strength of feeling expressed by their audience and the walkout of several supporting acts, including Finneas, Lukas Graham, and Aaron Rowe, who withdrew from the tour in protest. The controversy erupted after Macklemore delivered pro-Palestinian remarks at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, leading to his subsequent removal from the tour lineup.

Ed Sheeran has publicly distanced himself from the decision, insisting that the move was forced by venue owners who threatened to cancel shows if the rapper remained on the bill. While Sheeran maintains he is not complicit in the firing, the fallout continues to mount. Amid the tension, Macklemore pledged to donate his $1 million in tour earnings to humanitarian causes, while Sheeran has sought to address the crisis by coordinating a $2 million donation with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to aid those affected by the conflict.
