Piedmont Orthopedics Adds Surgeon J. Hunter Matthews to Henry County

Expanding its reach into Locust Grove, Piedmont Orthopedics | OrthoAtlanta has recruited fellowship-trained surgeon J. Hunter Matthews. The move bolsters the practice’s capacity for complex joint reconstruction in Henry County, where Matthews will split his clinical time between the new Locust Grove facility and the existing McDonough office.

Dr. Matthews brings specialized training in adult reconstruction, with a clinical focus on robotic-assisted knee replacement and muscle-sparing direct anterior hip surgery. His practice addresses a broad spectrum of joint complications, including degenerative disease, post-traumatic arthritis, and revision procedures. A graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, he completed his residency at Wake Forest University and an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at Emory University.

CEO Michael Ochal noted that the addition serves as a key component of the group's regional growth strategy. Beyond his surgical work, Matthews contributes to the field through research on emerging orthopedic technologies and maintains active memberships with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He is currently affiliated with Piedmont Henry Hospital, offering patients in the area increased proximity to specialized musculoskeletal care.
