QBit Semiconductor Targets Robotics and Drones with New Chipset Series

At SEMICON Taiwan 2026, Taipei-based QBit Semiconductor unveiled a roadmap for Physical AI hardware, centering on its QB88XX SoC series. The architecture aims to replace complex multi-chip setups in dexterous robotic hands and drones by consolidating motion control, AI processing, and secure communication onto a single silicon platform.

The QB88XX series utilizes a Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller design to manage robotic hands with over 20 degrees of freedom. By integrating quad-core Arm Cortex-A78 processors with specialized motor servo controllers and secondary NPUs, the chip handles complex motion tasks while simultaneously managing AI-driven servo tuning. This integration supports up to 32 motors, directly addressing the power and space limitations that typically hinder high-precision industrial automation.

QBit is simultaneously rolling out a two-phase drone strategy. The current phase utilizes the QB77XX chip to consolidate flight control and mission computing, supporting high-speed target tracking even during visual occlusions. By 2029, the company plans to transition this functionality into the unified QB88XX architecture. Security remains a priority, with the QB7 series maintaining NIST CAVP validation for Post-Quantum Cryptography, ensuring that firmware and device authentication remain resilient against emerging computational threats.
