Founded in 2024 by Khaled Eissa and Dr. Sherif Elsharkawy, the company focuses on a fundamental limitation of human biology: the inability of tooth enamel to regenerate naturally. Current industry standards, such as fluoride treatments or resin fillings, offer only superficial protection or mechanical patching. Eterna’s patented technology utilizes keratin—a protein found in human hair and wool—to stimulate a mineralization process that restores tooth surface hardness and structural integrity.
In vitro testing on extracted samples demonstrated that the material can foster a new, enamel-like layer on the tooth surface. Beyond the immediate oral care application, the startup is developing a broader pipeline that targets bone regeneration. By using its keratin-based platform to guide tissue growth, the company aims to move past traditional collagen membrane treatments that often fail to resolve underlying bone fragility. With a new research facility in Canary Wharf, the team is now focused on scaling its manufacturing processes and establishing partnerships with consumer-health groups to integrate the technology into commercially available products.
