Ed Sheeran Secured $2M Humanitarian Pledge Before Macklemore Tour Clash

While public attention fixated on Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour, a significant private initiative was already in motion. Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft revealed that Sheeran had quietly approached him to match a $2 million donation for humanitarian relief in the Middle East well before the recent controversy erupted.

The public narrative surrounding the tour shifted sharply after Macklemore used a September 4 performance at MetLife Stadium to advocate for Palestine. His subsequent removal from the lineup, driven by promoter decisions and venue concerns, triggered a wave of artist withdrawals, including Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, and Beoga.

Amid the fallout, Kraft sought to redirect focus toward the private diplomatic efforts that preceded the public dispute. He confirmed that Sheeran had initiated a request to bolster aid for civilians in the region, a goal the singer now intends to expand by soliciting support from other venue owners. Kraft, who has a history of supporting initiatives aimed at fostering economic and social ties between Israelis and Palestinians, characterized the contribution as a step toward building bridges. Meanwhile, Sheeran maintains that the decision to cut Macklemore from the tour was made by promoters rather than himself, noting he spent the week attempting to mediate between stakeholders to keep the tour intact.
