Emma Roberts Defends Haunted Doll Wedding Aesthetic

“I wanted to look like a haunted doll, which people thought was weird, but that was my vibe.” Emma Roberts is addressing the unconventional aesthetic of her July wedding to actor Cody John, confirming she has no regrets about the ethereal, ghost-inspired wardrobe choices that defined her Sun Valley ceremony.

The bride opted for a custom Monique Lhuillier gown for her vows, featuring tea-dipped silk chiffon to achieve an aged, vintage appearance. Roberts paired the lace-heavy ensemble with a sheer shawl and veil, leaning into a haunting aesthetic she credits to her long tenure on American Horror Story. For the subsequent after-party, she pivoted to a striking two-piece set featuring a black strapless lace corset. The design, inspired by a 2004 collection, was modified with a shortened hemline to facilitate dancing.

While the sartorial choices sparked discussion, the ceremony itself remained a private affair at John’s family estate. The event was held away from the media spotlight, attended only by close friends and family. Notably absent was the actress's father, Eric Roberts. Addressing his exclusion, Eric Roberts stated that he supports his daughter’s autonomy in planning her celebration, rejecting the label of estrangement. Despite his absence, the wedding was attended by family, including Julia Roberts, who was present to support her niece.
